What? is lists characters that aren't on your keyboard and copies them to your clipboard with just one click. It lists popular and useful Unicode characters. It's in no way an exhaustive list of Unicode characters, but to features some the most common and useful special characters that are not easily found on keyboards.

I got fed up with googling for dull, ugly, nerdy character tables haven't been near a designer for 15 years and that force you to copy and paste. When I need to find a character that isn't on my keyboard I wanted something that didn't make me want to rip my eyes out with late-nineties table design nostalgia. I also just wanted it to be easy to use with one-click copying.

If you think I've missed a useful characters from the list let me know via Twitter. If I like the character and it seems useful I'll but remember this isn't trying to be exhaustive and has a focus on characters that I find useful. Maybe in the future I'll find a way of creating a list that isn't just based on my personal preferences but for now it's the best I can do.

Some characters are just showing boxes or even not showing at all! Unfortunately your operating system or broswer doesn't support those characters. On Windows, Internet Explorer seems to support the most characters.

Do I need flash? Without Flash you don't get one-click copying; you'll have to press Ctrl+C (Cmd+C) - not the end of the world. Flash provides some access to you computer's clipboard so it's needed for automatic copying.

This sucks on mobile phones and tablets! Yes. Unfortunately it does. iOS and Android have no automatic way to copy characters from a web page to your clipboard. You have to do that manual long-press and select thing. (Let me know if I'm wrong or this has changed. I'd love it to work better on mobiles.)

My browser isn't supported or something else isn't working :-( For reasons of time and sanity I've had to limit which browsers I test this with to the most common current browsers. If you can I'd encourage your upgrade to the latest version of your browser, if you can't I'm sorry. If you're using a modern, mainstream, browser and something is wrong then please do let me know and I'll do my best to fix it.
